چکیده

At the conceptual level, business rules are formulated from an external observation perspective according to the event-condition-action structure of rules in active database systems. Business rules express how an external observer could monitor calendar time and the database state to recognize prede ned situations and to react to them accordingly. Modeling such business rules requires concepts that are not yet appropriately provided by current prototypes of active objectoriented database systems and recent approaches to active object-oriented database design (cf. [3]). Situation/Activation Diagrams homogeneously extend Object/Behavior Diagrams [1] to a graphical notation for the conceptual design of business objects and their associated business rules.

Graphical Notations for Rule Modeling

This chapter describes various graphical notations for rule modeling. Rule modeling methodologies, empowered with graphical notations, play an important role in helping business experts and rule engineers to represent business rules formally for further deployment into a rule execution system. Rules, represented graphically, can be easier understood by business people and by technicians without...

Business Process Verification

Models of commercial systems reflect either the statical structure or the dynamic behavior of a system. The dynamic aspects are the business processes and their models. Whereas the static relations in a system may be expressed by Boolean logic, the dynamic activities and their temporal sequences ask for a better formalism, e.g. temporal logic. Temporal logic is based on Boolean logic extended b...

Supplementing UML with concepts from ORM

The Unified Modeling Language (UML) is useful for designing object-oriented code, but is less suitable for conceptual data analysis. Its process-centric usecases provide an inadequate basis for specifying data-centric class diagrams, and the UML graphical language suffers from incompleteness, inconsistency and unnecessary complexity. For example, multiplicity constraints can lead to unexpected ...

Conceptual Model of the Graphical Editor GENGED for the Visual Definition of Visual Languages

This contribution presents a conceptual model of GENGED, an editor supporting the visual definition of visual languages (VLs). As usual a VL consists of an alphabet and a grammar. Given a grammar of a specific VL GENGED generates a syntax-directed graphical editor allowing the manipulation of visual sentences over this language. The conceptual framework of GENGED is based on algebraic graph tra...
